Three little shop girls lost their mittens and they began to cry....

Oh, BTF dear, we sadly fear that we have lost our mittens"....

....What? Lost you're mittens? Well, we are glad we have a shop nearby!

Fingerless gloves are all the rave. Why you may say? There is a method to the madness:

1. Finger Free! Let the phone RING!

While the temps are cold outside, I find it hard to pull off the gloves every time I need to send a quick text or make a phone call. Fingerless gloves provide a toasty way of keeping those fingertips free!

2. A Splash of Color!
Wearing nothin but neutrals!? What a perfect way to add a touch of color & perfect way to highlight an outfit! Or flip flop it with the white above when your outfit carries the color!

3. Fashion Forward!

Leg warmers and fingerless gloves do serve great purpose, but of course they are also fashionable and add new flare! Try layering with arm warmers or pull into an outfit...Make people turn their heads. You are a fashion diva....own it! I adore these new mittens with a bow.

How To Wednesday! Rock those leg warmers!

The most commonly asked question this season at Bags That Fit is: How do I wear these leg warmers?? Well ladies...NEVER FEAR! BTF shop girls are HERE!

Welcome back leg warmers! Here are a few rules to keep you stylin and comfy cozy this winter.

Rule 1: NO NEON. The 80's were fun and though leg warmers have made a come back remember to keep it fashion forward. When choosing a leg warmer stick with neutrals and warm colors: Black, grey, brown, cream, warm red, plum & blue. Also, make sure the texture isnt too bulky. This is also extremely important if you want to minimize your calves. Bright colors are fun but have been known to make your calves look bigger. Esp. when wearing with a skinny jean. They are more bulky then tights and leggings so neutrals are ideal.

***Important Tip*** When tucking into boots... DO NOT choose a heavy texture and the rule is to let them peak out 2-6 inches.

Rule 2: Wear with tights & leggings. For those of you that love to wear skirts and dresses this is a great option to keep your legs toasty. Make sure they are below your knee and you pull partly over the heel of your shoe....also OK to wear with flats. Rule 3: If you are going to wear over your shoes with skinnies....DO NOT wear a tall boot! Wear an ankle boot. OR
You will risk looking like this! Notice how bulky...and how those bright bold colors are just a little too much!
Rule 4: For something a little less casual and more sophisticated you'll love our lace boot socks. Great with skirts, over leggings....
or over denim....

Rule 5: Have fun with your own personal style! Trust yourself, add your own twist and you can never go wrong!

How To Wednesday.....say "cheers" in style. Holiday must haves.

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style....the streets are rockin holiday fashion and so should you!

Must Have Basics:

1. Neutrals and Sparkle! My favorite place this time of year is NYC. The smell of candy nuts, the hustle and bustle and best of all the holiday windows! This year windows were not full of bright red and green holiday wear but robust with neutrals! Nude shear colors are perfect on skin tones and easy to mix with a pop of color! Keep in mind: gold, silver, winter white and blush. Below is a great top with just enough sparkle. Sparkle is important...but be careful of not too much. Keep it simple!

***Bonus Tip*** RECYCLE! Remember that hot black blazer in your closet? Before shopping check your closet first! You may already have a great basic!

2. A Fabulous Dress, Cardi & Bling! Though a basic black cocktail dress is classic, switch it up with lace and your new neutral flare! Throw on a cute cardi for a pop of color, and as always dress it up with pearls or sparkly jewels.
3. A Great Coat. A little mustard anyone!? A coat with a bold color will always turn some heads.

4. Whimsical Scarf. A scarf not only keeps you comfy and warm...it also serves as a wonderful accessory. Grab a scarf with flare! It can turn a dull sweater into a fantastic top! It also eliminates the need to wear other accessories. A perfect way to make a statement!

5. Fantastic Fingerless Gloves. Now these, for me, are a MUST HAVE! I love how they keep my hands toasty but I still have the ability to text on my iPhone! Great for those of you who have touch screens!

HOW TO tips and tricks to organize your closet

How to have an organized closet? I'm so glad you asked!

Let's get right down to business, shall we?!

Often overlooked but definitely the most important "how to" of the "how to" is the hanger. Wooden hangers are the most kind to your clothing, plus it makes your closet look just a tid bit prettier. Throw out all those wire and cheap plastic hangers!
Oh the ever pressing question of how to store your favorite pair of boots. Well, ladies I've found the solution. Grab your favorite 2liter bottle and shove it, in your boot. This helps them stand up and you can line all your boots up in a row. No more will your boots be laying down and taking up so much room in your closet!

What to do with all those extra buttons? Find a cute container and keep it in your closet. Then when you get an extra button you have a place to store it and when you loose a button from your favorite top, you know where to find it.

Now you've found that missing button, what do you do? Sew it back on! Put together a mini sewing kit that is stored in your closet. This makes repairing clothing or sewing a button back on, a snap.
Purchase a small ironing board like this one (I found it at Ikea) with a hanger. It takes up minimal space and makes for a fast ironing job.
In a rush and don't have time to break out the iron? Your flat iron will work in a pinch! I've used it for many a ruffle and a much needed pressed hem.
What to do with all your handbags? A pursehanger of course! This little beauty frees up so much shelf space in my closet. Find yours at simplysarahshaw.com. It's great for scarves and belts too!
Speaking of belts and scarves...I like to use a panthanger. I found this one at Target and it's a great space saver! I can see all my belts and scarves which makes them so much easier to find, then if they were thrown in a basket or drawer.

Color Blocking Fashion Tips

We've all heard about The color blocking Trend...

what is it and how do I wear it?

Good question! Here are a few hints and tips.

Simply put, color blocking is wearing more than one bright color at a time. It's not a trend that most women embrace for fear that they won't be able to pull it off or they are unsure how to wear it and how to combine the colors. One wrong move can put you in either box, so you must be careful. It's about colors that complement your eye color and/or skin tone.

Pick colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel like yellow, orange-yellow, and orange, or for a more subtle contrast try aqua and blue. If you're more adventurous, you can try bolder mixes, like orange and blue.

Color blocking combines the use of two or more blocks of colour in an ensemble. This could be for a top, bottom, tunic, a dress and even a handbag or shoes. Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid color next to each other. It can include monotone, bright colours, muted colors, contrasting and complimentary colors. Clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories can all feature color block designs or can make up different blocks of color to be put together for a color block outfit.
By staying on the same side of the color wheel, pink and orange together are at the same time contrasting and stunning.

In this photo yellow and blue are a bolder choice color scheme. If you're not daring enough to pull off the entire outfit, start out with a bright contrasting handbag or shoe. You don't have to jump in completely, start with baby steps until you understand how to blend the colors together.

Dusty pink top is adorable by itself. We layered a basic layering tee under it for more coverage and added a vintage owl pocket watch for a touch of detail. The dark wash kensie denim is perfect for fall.

Want to add another layer? Top off the Dusty pink top with our adorable ruffle cardigan in grey.
Finally spruce it up with a bright pop of color belt. The belt helps to bring out the colors in the top.

How to layer a dress in 3 different ways

Want to stretch your wardrobe? Shake things up a bit? Try out a new look? Sometimes just a by adding a different accessory or by adding an additional layer, you can completely change the look of an outfit. Let us show you how!

We just got in the "All wrapped up" dress $38. By itself it's sweet and feminine, but by adding accessories we can change it up and create a whole new look.

Simple and Stylish- We took the "All wrapped up" dress $38 in gray and added a teal lace tee $22 to show a pop of color. Accented with a thin rope black belt $22 and a vintage rose and bird necklace $16. Pair this look with some Charcoal colored or black boots and it would be fabulous! This look is for the more simple lady. Just a touch of color and a few accessories. This look lets the dress become the main focus.
Cozy and vintage- We wanted to go for a more vintage look this time. Again we started with the "All wrapped up" dress $38 and added a beige lace tee $22 for more of a warm look and feel. we topped it with the "Ivory crochet" cardigan $36 which helps to warm up the grey color, a sweet ruffle belt $22 in brown and brown leggings $24. Yes ladies, you can mix blacks, grays and browns! We accented with a vintage necklace $16 for a final touch.

Feminine and Snuggled- This look is a combination of the other two looks. It's not quite as simple as the first, but not as layered as the 2nd. The "All wrapped up" dress $38 once again with the beige lace tee. Instead of a ruffle brown belt, this time we went for a gray ruffle belt that has tan highlights. This belt is darling!! We warmed it up by adding an infinity scarf in cream $19, which I love! The infinity scarf is such a hot item for this fall and it looks great with this dress. We ditched the leggings in this look, but you could add some tights and brown boots.

There you have it...One dress, styled 3 different ways. Learning how to create different looks and mixing and matching items, you can stretch the looks in your closet as well as the dollars in your handbag!

The woman behind our inspiration, the amazingly beautiful, on the inside and out, Audrey Hepburn, once gave a beautiful quote. It can be viewed hanging behind our cash wrap at our shop.

It's there to inspire us and lift us up on those dark days as well as the bright. We, as well as many of our beloved customers loved it so much, that we had it made into a charm to be worn on a necklace.

This quote charm became one of our best sellers. Customers were on waiting lists for it and my adorable jewelry girl, couldn't make them fast enough.

After realizing what an inspiration this quote has been to us, our customers and women around the world, we adopted it.

This quote became what we wanted each and every customer to feel while in our shop. To know that no matter what you look like, no matter your shape, your size, your culture, your background, your insecurities, your fears, your clothing and even down to your shoes that to truly be happy and find true happiness, that it comes from within. That is what makes you pretty. That is what makes you beautiful. That is what makes you, amazingly you. To be secure in your own skin. To radiate the beauty that only YOU carry inside.

This became our mission. We posted it in our shop, permanently on our blog and in a post on facebook. We absorbed it and drank in it's meaning. In doing so, we have tried to help our customers find a place where their hectic lives disappear, if only for a little while. Where they are special and important to us. We want them to feel beautiful, when they enter and when they leave. We hope that we can show them some tip that will give them a boost, or sometimes a listening ear, and often even a hug between two people that were once strangers, but left as friends. Recently, it has been brought to our attention, that this quote, or rather the line we chose to use, could be viewed as offensive. We have been heartsick upon hearing this. We would never intentionally offend anyone, especially our beloved customers. It's because of YOU that we have a shop and can live out a life long dream. We recognize that 100%! We appreciate ALL of your support and the support of the community.

We hope after hearing our explanation, our new and old, customers will understand our hearts. We apologize if this quote, or the line we chose, offended you. We continue to love Audrey Hepburn, our inspiration. We love this quote and what it represents to us. The line "I believe in BEING STRONG, When everything seems to be going wrong," has saved our spirits, many of days. We do stand behind this beloved quote and will continue to use it throughout our shop and in our marketing.

Utah Valley Women's Expo was awesome this year! We had so much fun meeting so many of you!
We did a bigger booth this year and boy, did it help! Our customers, new and old, were able to shop and find the goodies they were looking for.

I'm in love with our Chandeliers. They turned out adorable!

Cute Shantelle tried on this adorable ensemble while at the show. She loved it so much she marked it sold!

Allison bought this top on Friday and I found her wandering the show on Saturday wearing it! Well I chased her down and made her pose for a photo. We love this top paired with skinny jeans and boots!

Our booth turned out fabulous this year! We went for a Glam Girl's dream closet. Don't you love our sparkly shoes? They just scream "Cinderella."

Your Dressing Room Denim Checklist

Oh Denim...You walk into the dressing room with a handful of jeans in your hand, hoping...praying...that at least one pair will fit.

One pair will make your butt look awesome.

One pair will be that "it" pair.

You know, the one that you always throw on and your girlfriends ask "Did you loose 10lbs?" and you just smile, knowing that it's just the jeans.

Your favorite pair of jeans that have suddenly become your new best friend. Once you've found that perfect pair of denim jeans, you treasure them...remember the brand and hope they never wear out.

The hardest part? FINDING the perfect pair of jeans!

We're here to help girlfriends!

We've heard your plea and your pain!!

We've created "your dressing room denim checklist".

By following these tips, we know getting a great fit will be easier.

*Waist-Check that the waistband sits comfortably and that your tummy or "muffin top" that we so endearingly call it, doesn't spill over. Bend and touch your toes to see if you're showing too much skin in back. If you are, you need a higher waistband.

Rise-A mid rise is universally fattering, lower works on short torsos, and higher is great on long torsos.

Hips and thighs-Avoid puckering or pulling, especially in the crotch area, as it will be unflattering and uncomfortable. Try to stay with a sleek and smooth effect.

Butt-Try on a pair that feels like it fits, then walk, sit down, stand back up, and take a second look. There shouldn't be any bunching or sagging.

Inseam-Jeans you wear with flats can break anywhere between just below the ankle and right above the ground. Jeans you wear with heels should be long enough to cover the back of shoes.

Fabric tips-Check the stretch. A pair with some stretch is ideal-jeans that have none at all can feel uncomfortable.

Check the wash. Darker rinses are versatile and slimming. Lighter rinses and embellishments (bling) draw the eye, so be sure they're on areas you want to stand out.

The adorable Nautical Trend is HUGE right now. The blue and white stripe and any thing sailor inspired. We're seeing it all over NYC and we've brought it to UT!

So How do you wear this trend, you may ask? Need some tips on how to wear those horizontal nautical stripes?

The wonderful Tim Gunn (fashion consultant) answers this question in Glamour magazine...
Q. I love stripes, especially blue and white nautical ones, but I find them very difficult to wear. They're just not flattering on me. Any advice?

A. "The fact of the matter is, you may be correct-nautical stripes can be hard to wear (but with a little help, you too can wear this trend). In fashion, nautical means horizontal, and in my experience, the larger the width of the stripe, the fewer people look good in it. Try narrower stripes and-since I assume that you're referring to knitted tops-try belting the item in either a corresponding or contrasting color. The belt's width should be wider than the stripes in the knit, because it will cause their width to diminish." Tim Gunn-Glamour Magazine

How to wear the 2010 Denim Jacket

The Denim Jacket is back! Wait!!!...Before you get too freaked out, it's not the denim jacket you remember from the 1980's! This jacket is all grown up and looking better than ever! Are you needing some tips on how to wear this little number?

Well, you came to the right place.

Tip #1-When wearing a Deim jacket, you'll want to break up the jean on jean look with a top that's longer than you're jacket, like in the photo below.

Tip #2- To tacky-proof double denim, don't work two pieces that are the same wash at the same time. It's okay to wear denim jeans with your denim jacket, just make sure they are different washes.

Tip #3-Keep your accessories basic. A neutral belt, like in the photo above, or a neutral pair of shoes complement classic blues while adding interest to the outfit.

You may recognize this face from Good Things Utah. Lisa was frequently on the show sharing crafty & creative ideas. After years of sewing, teaching, painting, cutting wood, scrapbooking, and having books published, she decided it was time for beading.

Here's to all the MOM'S!

Being a mom is hard...period. It's the hardest job I've ever done...by far. It's the most thankless, stressful, physically and emotionally exhausting job I've ever had. I never feel like I measure up, or that I'm doing a good job. I always feel like I could have done better, said something better or even listened better. I could have been a better friend to my children. I could have tried a little harder. I could and should have been there a little more. I should be more in the moment, for way too soon, they will be grown and gone. There's always a little more I could have done.

(Sadly, this is one of the only pics of my mom that I have. She hates having her pic taken, and so I don't have very many.)

Yet, when I come to think of my own mother, I think she's about as close to perfect as they come. She was ALWAYS there for me. She listened more than anyone, she tried harder than anyone, she was a better friend than anyone. As I'm typing this, I'm crying, thinking of all the amazing things my mother did, that I never quite thanked her for or even noticed. My mother is the most amazing woman I have ever known. I was truly blessed to have her as my mom. You all know her from the store and she is often referred to as the "mom" to everyone there. She takes care of all of us and no one cares more about the store than my mom. She loves her job and I love her for it.

Yes, being a mom is the hardest job, I've ever had. It's also the most rewarding job I've ever had. There's nothing like a hug at the end of a hard day...or someone saying "you look beautiful mommy" when you feel fat and ugly. Or holding their little hand and looking down to see a beautiful smile looking at you. It's the snuggle at night of them crawling in my bed and reading stories. It's the hug from my 12yr old boy, or him saying he loves me a buttload! It's the homemade "mom coupons" from school and yes, even the macaroni necklace. The little handprints on the mirror and the muddy footprints on my freshly mopped floors. This makes all I do completely worth it. I was born to be a mom and I am so blessed.

So here's to all the mom's! Let's be a little be kinder to ourselves! Let's give us all a little bit more forgiveness. Go and give a MOM a hug! She needs it!

So, we decided to dress up some of you and you were all so sweet to let us snap pics of you. It was so fun! We are definitely going to do this more often. Clothes look good on a hanger, but so much better being able to see it on yourself or someone else!
